The Hanifiyyah Or The Religion of Abraham

Hanifiyyah is to devote sincerely all acts of worship to Allah alone. This is what Allah has enjoined on all people, and for this reason He has created them. In the Qur’an we read::

“I have created the jinn and the humans only that they should worship Me.” [Q 51:56]

The meaning of “to worship Me” is to profess Allah’s Oneness, believing that Allah is the One Who commands and Who imposes prohibitions.

The greatest thing that Allah has enjoined is at-Tawheed, i.e. monotheism. Monotheism is declaring Allah to be the only god Who deserves to be worshipped in truth, and confirming the attributes with which He has qualified Himself and those attributed to Him by His Messenger [PBUH]. Tawheed is also believing that Allah far removed from every imperfection or resembling His creatures.

The greatest thing that Allah has forbidden is Shirk or polytheism. Polytheism is worshipping other gods beside Allah, and setting up rivals to Allah. In the Qur’an we read:

“And worship Allah and associate none with Him.” [Q 4:36]

“So do not set equals to Allah while you know (there is none equal to Him).” [Q 2:22]

The first thing that one should know and clearly understand about Islam is what the word "Islam" itself means. The religion of Islam is not named after a person as in the case of Christianity which was named after Jesus Christ, Buddhism after Gotama Buddha, Confucianism after Confucius, and Marxism after Karl Marx. Nor was it named after a tribe like Judaism after the tribe of Judah and Hinduism after the Hindus. Islam is the true religion of "Allah" and as such, its name represents the central principle of Allah's "God's" religion; the total submission to the will of Allah "God". The Arabic word "Islam" means the submission or surrender of one's will to the only true God worthy of worship "Allah" and anyone who does so is termed a "Muslim' The word also implies "peace" which ihe natural consequence of total submission to the will of Allah. Hence, it was not a new religion brought by Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), (PBUH) in Arabia in the seventh century, but only true religion of Allah re-expressed in its final form.

Islam is the religion which was given to Adam, the first man and the first prophet of Allah, and it was the religion of all the prophets sent by Allah to mankind. The name of God's religion, Islam, was not decided upon by later generations of man. It was chosen by Allah Himself and clearly mentioned in His final revelation to man. In the final book of divine revelation, the Qur'an, Allah states the following:

"This day have I perfected your religion for you, completed My favour upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion." [Qur’an 5:3]

"If anyone desires a religion other than Islam, never will it be accepted of him." [Qur’an 3:85]

"Abraham was not a Jew nor a Jew nor yet a Christian; but an upright Muslim." [Qur’an 3:67]

Nowhere in the Bible will you find Allah saying to Prophet Moses' people or their descendants that their religion is Judaism, nor to the followers of Christ that their religion is Christianity. In fact, Christ was not even his name, nor was it Jesus! The name "Christ" comes from the Greek word Christos which means the anointed. That is, Christ is a Greek translation of the Hebrew title “Messiah". The name "Jesus" on the other hand, is a latinized version of the Hebrew name Esau.

Far simplicity's sake, I will however continue to refer to Prophet Esau (PBUH) as Jesus. As for his religion, it was what he called his followers to. Like the prophets before him, he called the people to surrender their will to the will of Allah (which is Islam); and he warned them to stay away from the false gods of human imagination.

According to the New Testament, he taught his followers to pray as follows: "Yours will be done on earth as it is in Heaven".

The Religion of God (Deen-e-Elahi)

1. If you follow a religion but are devoid of the Love of God, then those that do not follow a religion but have the love of God are better.

2. Love is connected to the heart. When the Name of God Allah is synchronized with the heartbeat, it then travels through the blood to all the veins, reaches the spirits and awakens them. Then the spirits are rejuvenated and go into the Love of God.

3. Any Name of God in any language is worthy of respect but the original Name of God in the Semitic language is Allah. This (Semitic) is the language of the celestial entities. It is by this Name that the angels call upon God and it is attached to the Title of every Prophet.

4. Any individual who is sincerely searching for God, on land or in the sea is also worthy of respect.

5. Many Adams came into this world, at the same time and in different places. All the Adams were made in the world with clay from this world except the last Adam who is buried in Arabia. He was the only one made in paradise with clay which was also from paradise. With the exception of this Adam the angels did not bow down before any other Adam. Satan became the enemy of the descendants of this Adam.

6. There are seven types of entities in the human body. These are connected to different celestial spheres. They are connected to different heavens and are further connected with different functions within the human body. If these entities are strengthened with light they then resemble the person they are in and travel to many places at the same time. They can travel to the gatherings of Saints and Prophets and even talk to God and see God.

7. Every human being has two religions. The first is the religion of the body which ceases to exist after death. The second is the religion of the soul, which has existed since the beginning of time, the Love of God. It is by this religion that a human being is exalted.

8. Superior to all the religions is the Love of God and superior to all types of worship is seeing God.
